Saattaa tästä muutamia tomaatteja kasvaakin! Alut ovat ainakin ihan oikean näköisiä. ;-)
Saksa pelasi eilen hyvin. Tyttö laittoi lipun roikkumaan parvekkeelle pelin ajaksi. Tulipahan kaikille selväksi, mitä joukkuettä täällä kannatetaan. Tänään on sitten Belgian pelivuoro ja lasten piti pukeutua kouluun joukkueen väreihin. Saksan ja Belgian värit on tietysti samat, mutta koulussa on parasta vaan mennä muiden mukana ja pitää ne paikallisessa järjestyksessä... Sen verran totista touhua se jalkapallo täällä on, että ei kannata pitää kovin suurtä ääntä siitä, että itseasiassa kannattaa enemmänkin naapurimaata. Täytyy toivoa, ettei maat joudu vastakkain, ettei tule conflict of interests -ongelmia. ;-)
Jossakin ulkomaalaisen kirjoittamassa suomalaisesta kulttuurista kertovassa kirjassa joskus vitsailtiin, että Suomessa kesäisin kaikki on kesä- jotakin. Eli osta kesäkeksejä ja kesämehua, käy kesäsaunassaa, mene kesäleirille, lue kesälehtiä ja mitä muuta sitä keksiikään. Täällä on nyt sitten kaikki maailmanmestaruus-sitä-sun-tätä. Ruokakaupassa tavallisetkin ruoat on pakattu maailmanmestaruus- tai vähintään Brasilia-kääreisiin. Jos normaalisti syö vaikka tavallisia oliiveja, niin nyt niitä saa maailmanmestaruusoliiveina. Lapsilla on tänään koulussa jopa maailmanmestaruus (WK)-menu päiväruoaksi. Syöttävät heille varmaankin jalkapallon palasia...

Germany played well yesterday. Our daughter hanged a flag at the street side balcony while watching the game. At least everybody saw what team we are supporting. Or supporting most, might be a better expression. Today Belgium plays, so the kids had to go to school dressed up like proper fans. The colors of the two teams are the same, but it is best to keep them in the local order when going outside the house... Football is a serious matter here and so not worth of getting into a debate of any kind about actually supporting the neighboring country bit more. Thus, Belgium it is today. I just hope that the countries are not having to play against each other, so that we wouldn't get into a conflict of interests. ;-)
Once I read in some book written about Finnish culture by a foreigner living in Finland, that during the summer season, everything in Finland is spoken of with the prefix "summer." An adverisement reads: Buy summer cookies, summer limonade, summer magazine... Go on a summer camp, have summer prices... whatever, but everything is "summer this or that." Right now the same seems to happen here. You can buy whatever you normally buy, but now everything is tagged with the term "world championship." Like the world championship olives, world championship candies, world championship anything... Because of the Belgian game today, the kids will even have a world championship menu at school. They probably serve pieces of football for lunch...That would show true enthusiasm, wouldn't it?
