Roskien keräyspäivä - The street cleaning day

Today the town organized a cleaning day for collecting all the litter on the streets. We got about 30 persons, students, faculty and staff, to participate! A town worker brought us many rolls of trash bags, fluo vests and pincers. My husband promised that we'd clean rather large area. We divided the participants into eight groups and assigned two drivers to bring people to the starting points and later pick up the filled bags. It was a fun morning outside. Before we enjoyed the hamburger lunch prepared by the campus pastor and his helpers, the mayor of the town came to greet our cleaning team. It was a successful day and we got some compliments for participating in this community event. One funny thing happened to one of the students who cleaned one little street all by himself. Somebody saw him picking up the litter and asked him what he had done to deserve community service as a punishment for it... The student told afterwards that the person had not quite believed him as he told about just participating in an official cleaning project of the town. Perhaps the combination of a light blue T-shirt combined with a fluo vest, a pincer and a big white trash bag were too impressive... :D
