Hiekkaa

Tyttö tietysti halusi kulkea ilman kenkiä. Vesi oli aika kylmää, mutta ranta on siltikin parhaimmillaan paljasjaloin. Hieno hiekka on aina hankalaa puhdistettavaa... Kaupungissa erään talon seinässä oli Andreas Oosthoekin runo Elementit. Käännettynä suurinpiirtein näin:

Kuulen hänen vieläkin sanovan,
isoisäni,
vanhan viisaan:

Ette saa valittaa,
joka päivä näette meren.

Niin, huusimme me silloin, meren,
mutta mitä muuta meillä muka on?

No, hän sanoi
ja sytytti tulen piippuunsa,
teillä on hiekkaa
ja siinä on aika paljon,
ja teillä on tuuli.
Se on tarpeeksi,
älkää puhuko tästä aiheesta enää sen enempää.

Lomapäivää viettäessä on helppo samaistua isoisän sanoihin. Miten meren ääressä keneltäkään muka voisi puuttua mitään. Aamulenkki hiekalla, aamukahvi dyynin juurella portaikossa istuen, aamupäivä simpukankuoria keräten, iltapäivä laivoja laskien, ilta auringonlaskua katsellen... Kuka sellaisesta valittaisi?

The girl preferred to walk without the shoes. That's the real way to feel the sea and the sand. Somewhere in town, we found a poem printed on the wall. It was about the old grandfather telling children stop complaining that they don't have anything. The grandfather says, that they have the sea, the sand and the wind, and that is enough. It is easy to agree with the grandfater. Going jogging on the beach, drinking the morning coffee sitting at the stairs, spending the noon collecting treasures in the sand, afternoon counting the ships, looking at the sun set in the evening... Why in the world would anybody complain???
