Torilla / The farmers' market

Before the visit to the secondhand shop yesterday, we went to the farmers' market nearby. We bought summer plants, vegetables and fruit. We carried a basket like you just need to do to at the market. Well, I did leave my brimmed hat at home. ;-) They had several kinds of traditional perennials that you don't find in the shops nowadays. (Think of the grandmother's garden.) Just for fun I chose couple of Dahlias for myself, since I never tried growing them yet.

It was in the news last week, that the local farmers actually need the income they can earn at the farmers' markets. Otherwise, they must sell their products for far too low price to the shops. Nearly everything was cheaper. Thus, the market benefits both the farmers and the customers. We must make it a habit.

The atmosphere was wonderful! There was enough going on to make the place lively, but not too much to make it busy. The one shouting with the loudest voice got the most customers. "Last cherries for 3€/kg, last cherries..." By visiting the market regulary, you can surely get to know couple of the farmers. That will make the market experience even more special, because buying something from somebody you know makes it taste all the better...
